I'm Emily Chan, British Vogue's Senior Sustainability and Features Editor.

This episode, I'm joined by the author, editor, game-changing stylist, the Queen of Frift, Bay Garnet.

Whether you know it or not, Bay's work bringing vintage to the mainstream probably has shaped the way you shop.

This sounds very woo-woo. It is woo-woo. I do think that there is a kind of thrifting magic that happens.

And I think if you go in with like ideas and energy and optimism and up for itness, you will find something.

In the late 90s, Bay started out styling shoots for cult zine cheap date using almost

exclusively second-hand finds. Her cheeky campaigns that poked fun at glossy high fashion

quickly caught the attention of British

Vogue, where she became a contributing editor. Here she continued to champion the use of second-hand

clothes in high fashion styling, iconically dressing Kate Moss in head-toe vintage for the magazine in 2003,

a shoot which reverberated through the fashion industry, but more on that later.

More recently, Bay has written a new book, Style and Substance, By What We Wear Matters,

and works closely with Oxfam as a senior fashion advisor, including as creative director and

stylist for their annual Fashion Week runway show.
