Jesus says,

Wait a minute.

You're slogging it out. That's true. And it's hard. That's true.

But do you hear me?

I am your God. I am your treasure. I am your high tower. I am your God. I am your treasure.

I am your high tower.

I am your reward.

I am your portion.

I will surround you with deliverance.

I will care for you.

And whether you live or you die, I am your gain.

And there are pleasures at my right hand forever more.

You can't begin to out-sacrifice me or out-give me.

And then very gently, get off of yourself, pity.

I think we'd all agree that there are seasons when the Christian life just feels like slogging.

You are doing the right things, trying to stay faithful,

and it's just hard.

So when John Piper quotes Jesus saying,

I am your reward, it actually changes things for us.
