Why is it so hard to view the Bible as parable and metaphor?

There's a lot of truth in the Bible.

Not necessarily a lot of facts we can prove, but a lot of truth.

And if you're going to say you follow Jesus,

and that's why you get to impose your will, your policies,

again, abortion, cruelty to gay people,

none of it comes from Jesus.

So I like to say, if I'm in a Rolling Stones cover band,

and I advertise that I'm a Rolling Stones cover band, but I don't actually play any of songs

by the Rolling Stones, I should find a new name for my shitty group.

So the media outlet Christianity Today recently put out a piece that said the church better start taking nautsification seriously. It was kind of a breakthrough to have an evangelical empire call out the church for not drawing a hard enough line from Nazism. The key argument being that

the Bible cannot sit alongside Mind Kampf, that the cross cannot yield to the swastika, and that Christians

need to ask themselves if they want Jesus or Hitler because they can't have both.

Now, this country is clearly filled with voters of faith. So how did we get so off track? And what is

the disconnect between Christianity and American Christianity? So today I'm having a conversation with

comedian, writer, and all-around good guy, John Fuglesang, who just wrote an

incredible bestselling book about this very topic called The Separation of Church and Hate.

The book has been called a rallying cry of compassion and clarity for anyone who is sick of
