2 Kings chapter 23, verse 4.

And the king commanded Hilkaya the high priest,

and the priests of the second order and the keepers of the threshold

to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the vessels made for Bail,

for Ashera, and for all the host of heaven.

He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron and carried their ashes to Bethel.

I love this verse.

I love this chapter.

It's one of the best chapters, by far in Second Kings.

Now that there's a lot of competition, there's a lot of really evil, unjust, idolatrous things happening in Second Kings.

But here is a bright light as the beginning of this chapter, Josiah, the king, goes up to the house of the Lord, and he the words of God and all the people are repenting

and turning back to God's word and specifically.

So what happens in verse 4 and why don't want to lead us to pray according to this verse is because the king commands

the high priest, the priest of the second order, the keepers of the threshold, these officials in the temple to go into the temple

and bring out all these idols and burn them.

Josiah goes on a destructive spree,

just abolishing, burning, destroying,

all the idols that had been set up in Judas' history

before him.

And as I read this verse, I just want to encourage you, even as I'm encouraged by this verse,

let's be zealous like this for God's glory in our lives and our families and our churches to remove idols from our lives
