History's podcast. I'm the host Ben, and I'm here for the week beginning the 4th of May 2025.

So it's Sunday right now, and I'm recording on the day of the podcast supposed to be out because, you know, I like to do everything at the very last minute

if I can possibly manage it. And it's the May bank holiday. So I figured that's probably where

we should start with with yesterday to day.

May Day holiday is actually really old.

I don't actually know how old.

I did look it up a little bit when I was doing this.

And funnily, enough, a lot of the stories that I was reading were debating this exact fact.

Like, how old is it?

Some said it's like Roman,

some said it's like goes back even earlier than that and blah, blah, blah, but it's pretty old, right? A lot of the stories and the papers that I found for it were just about like

fares and markets, because basically it seemed like a lot of the smaller market towns,

things like that. We'd all have their spring fairs or spring markets on Mayday.
