Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

The first Prime Minister's Questions of the Year was dominated by international events.

On Wednesday the 7th of January, Sekeia Stama told MPs they'd get a vote

before British troops were deployed in Ukraine in the event of a peace deal. The Conservative

leader Kemi Badnock complained that the Prime Minister should have made a statement to Parliament

and accused him of being scared. January is traditionally a time for resolutions and attempts to do things a bit differently.

But not everybody wants to change.

Secere Stama opened the last Prime Minister's questions of 2025 with a festive joke aimed at Reform UK.

And he decided to stick with the formula for the first PMQs of the new year.

Can I begin by saying I hope all colleagues had a happy Christmas?

It probably feels quite a long time ago now.

But not for reform, of course, because today is the day that they celebrate Christmas in Russia.

Labour MPs enjoyed that dig, Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice, sitting on the other side of the chamber,

threw his hands up in the air.

Kirstama began 2026 by insisting he planned to focus on the cost of living.

But his domestic message was quickly overshadowed by events overseas

and the Prime Minister spent Tuesday in Paris.

Along with President McCrown and President Zelensky,

we agreed a declaration of intent on the deployment of forces in the

event of a peace deal. Mr. Speaker, we will set out the details in a statement at the earliest
