Hello, I'm Susan Hume and this is the Yesterday in Parliament podcast.

On Wednesday the 4th of March, the Prime Minister was asked repeatedly about his decisions over the war in Iran.

The outspoken President of the United States was nowhere near the Commons Chamber,

but the Speaker nevertheless began Prime Minister's question time with a sensitivity warning.

In light of recent exchanges in the Chamber,

I'd like to remind members of the need for good temper and moderation in the language that they use in this Chamber.

He didn't spell out which comments he was referring to,

although Kemi Badenok, whose words outraged Labour MPs last week,

grinned and nodded sagely in response.

In her questions, the Conservative leader turned immediately to the Middle East,

attacking the Prime Minister for failing to join

in the offensive action to destroy Iran's missile sites. Iran is trying to kill our servicemen and

women. He is catching arrows rather than stopping the archer. That's what we're talking about.

Why is he asking our allies to do what we should be doing ourselves?

I would say to Labour MPs, we are in this war whether they like it or not.

What is the Prime Minister waiting for?

Sarkier Stalmer said that when the US and Israel had begun their strikes on Iran last Saturday,

he was not prepared for the UK to join a war

unless he was satisfied it was lawful

and part of a thought-through plan.

But he had sent jets and defensive equipment to the region

ahead of the action.
