Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

There was plenty of cross-party agreement on Monday the 24th of February,

as MPs marked the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

But there were disagreements over President Trump's recent interventions.

Disagreeing agreeably is an important diplomatic skill.

With a visit to Washington looming, the Foreign Secretary David Lammy

used a common statement on Ukraine to smooth over any differences between the British government and Donald Trump.

Ukraine needs friends and allies on both sides of the Atlantic working together to achieve peace through strength.

Both President Trump and President Zelensky have spoken of their desire to achieve this.

And the Prime Minister will reaffirm to Zelensky in a call today

that this is Britain's goal as well.

His Conservative opposite number, Dame Priti Patel,

praised President Zelensky,

attacked President Putin but avoided talking about President Trump.

She argued that it was time for the UK to lead

and suggested spending some of the international aid budget on defence.

And given the threats our nation faces, I would urge the government, and in fact the Foreign Secretary,

because this is within his purview and his department, to review and repurpose some of the 0.5% currently spent on odour

to further our national defence and safety and security.

The cross-party caution about Donald Trump didn't extend to every corner of the Commons

for the Liberal Democrats Callum Miller said the past week had shown the fragility of the West support for Ukraine.
