Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

On Wednesday, the 22nd of April, the Prime Minister faced calls to resign,

as opposition MPs kept up the pressure on him over the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson

as the British ambassador to the United States.

On Monday, when the Prime Minister spent almost two and a half hours answering questions

about the Peter Mandelson vetting scandal, the Labour MPs sitting behind him were largely silent.

But they gave Sarkier Stama a traditional welcome

when he arrived for this week's Prime Minister's questions.

It was almost noon when Kirstama and the Chancellor Rachel Reeves took their seats.

Cabinet ministers were out in force,

and many had bagged places on the front bench in advance.

We now come to questions the Prime Minister might want.

The Conservative wanted to know more about a claim made by the former head of the Foreign

Office, Sir Olly Robbins, when he gave evidence to a group of MPs on Tuesday.

Can the Prime Minister deny that Downing Street considered appointing Matthew Doyle to a diplomatic

position? Matthew Doyle is Kirste Armour's former spin doctor. He never became an ambassador,

but he was given a seat in the House of Lords.

Earlier this year, he lost the Labour whip after he campaigned in council elections

for a friend who'd been charged with possessing indecent images of children and who was then

convicted. The Prime Minister appeared to confirm that Number 10 had approached the Foreign Office.

Matthew Doyle worked for many years in public service, for me as Prime Minister and other ministers.
