On Tuesday, the 17th of March, Parliament had a special visitor, Ukraine's President Zelensky.

Ukraine's President Zelenskyy last addressed Parliament three years ago. His welcome this time was still rapturous, but a lot else has changed. There's now war in the Middle East too, and both conflicts have seen a new kind of warfare, in which drones are a central feature. President Zelensky told MPs and peers that on his drive to Parliament,

he'd been struck by being able to look up and see the branches of trees free of anti-drone netting.

And he painted a dystopian picture of the world if we did not fight the threats.

Will this still be a world where people live above the ground, under the sun, not underground, under concrete just to stay safe?

It's up to us to decide.

And so for the Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, There are high stakes and crises everywhere.

In the Commons Chamber, her thumbs were a blur of rapid texting

as she sat on the front bench waiting to update MPs.

And if the war in Ukraine seems many miles from the one in the Middle East,

she acknowledged a dangerous connection.

The soaring oil price could help to refill Moscow's war chest,

so the UK and others had worked to ease the global price of oil.

While maintaining our economic pressure and sanctions on Russia,

because as we welcome President Zelensky to London today,

we are determined that war in the Gulf must not become a windfall for Putin

as we continue to stand with Ukraine. In these tense times, the Foreign Secretary's phone

kept lighting up with new messages. President Trump has decided to ease sanctions on countries

buying Russian oil. The Conservative shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel

was also worried about the benefit to Moscow.
