Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is yesterday in Parliament from BBC Radio 4.

The common speaker called on ministers to apologise to Parliament on Thursday the 15th of May

for telling the media, rather than MPs, about big policy announcements.

Sooner or later, every common speaker complains about ministers giving journalists the scoop on big changes,

rather than letting MPs hear the news first.

On Wednesday, the Justice Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, used a news conference to announce the latest scheme

to free up spaces in overcrowded prisons,

even though the Commons was sitting at the time. The Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, complained that this

was just the latest ministerial breach of the rules. Black benches have the right to question

ministers first. I'm not interested in Sky News of the BBC or political programmes.

I'm here to defend all of you.

I will continue to defend you.

Please do not take MPs for granted.

It is not acceptable.

I know it's not the minister's fault,

but the message is going to go back loud and clear.

And when you're in the wrong,

try apologising to the members that we clear. And when you're in the wrong, try
