Several major cities are dealing with staffing shortages as a result.

In the year in Chicago, the latest data show the city has about 1,500 fewer officers than

it's budgeted for.

In San Francisco, there are more than 250 open officer positions.

Some departments like Seattle are offering sign-on bonuses of tens of thousands of dollars.

This is a problem.

It's a crisis.

It's a giant national crisis, disproportionately affecting poor people, people of color.

Right.

But those who are a vowed defenders of those folks couldn't give a crap because it's

a little complicated and goes against the narrative.

Yeah, I don't know what's going to happen.

I don't know how this is going to shake out.
