Summary

Yael Averbuch always had two goals: play soccer for the UNC Tar Heels, and join the US Women’s National Soccer team. But when her body started breaking down, she had to decide: continue her fight to be the best or give her body what it needs? This podcast is a production of Rebel Girls. 0:00.0	It was game day, and Yael Averbush was wrestling with the usual nervous energy before a match.
0:13.0	A midfielder for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels women's soccer team, Yael knew the game inside and out.
0:22.0	She tried to push the self-doubt out of her mind.
0:25.7	Yeah, you've got this, you've got this.
0:29.9	The Tar Heels were playing their fifth game of the season.
0:33.4	The winning team would inch a little closer to the women's college cup,
0:37.8	a prestigious title in college sports.
0:41.7	Yael squinted in the sunshine,
0:44.6	the ball waiting patiently at the midfield stripe.
0:49.0	Then she took a few quick steps,
0:52.8	and bam, a powerful kick!
0:55.0	The ball soared through the air.
0:58.0	One second, two seconds.
1:01.0	It floated over the heads of the astonished defenders.
1:05.0	Three seconds, and then over the outstretched hands of the goalie, and into the net.
1:14.0	Four seconds!
1:16.0	Goal!
1:17.6	And just like that, in four seconds, Yael Averbush had set a record for the fastest goal ever scored in the NCAA women's soccer.
1:30.3	Cheers from her teammates and the crowd rose through the air.
1:35.3	Beaming in triumph, Yael knew she wanted to keep setting records and scoring goals.
1:41.3	She wanted to be the best soccer player in the world.
