It is the start of yet another week in the strange and confusing world of public health.

Ladies and gentlemen, while Boris Johnson prepares to make yet another series of declarations

to the country this very afternoon, I'm still reeling from the behaviour of the Department

of Health and Social Care over the weekend. Following an amazing article in a Daily Mail on Saturday,

which laid bare the truth about government statistics on hospital

beds, death rates and predictions of disaster, they actually issued a tweet which declared

the mail facts to be misleading.

Let's just run that one by you again.

The facts were actually misleading.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, Mr and Mrs Department of Health, but actually you cannot

mislead when you publish facts.

That would be the job of the government.

Following an outpouring of questions, disagreements and doubts from amongst others

me, they then deleted the tweet without any kind of explanation, without any kind of reference

and without any form of context.

Are we to assume now then that the

mail article was not misleading and therefore true? If so, fatalities from COVID-19 are barely any higher

than deaths over the past five years. If so, the predictions of rising deaths are also wrong.

And if so, the hospital beds are actually less occupied than they were same time last year.

So the question remains, what exactly is going on?
