Summary

It's time to stop blasting sentinels and dive into the cosmic jazz of podcasting! Your host Chad Quandt is joined by writer Ben Joseph (Invincible Fight Girl, Dropout, Star Trek: Lower Decks) to cover a bold relaunch of the X-Men from 2001 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. New enemy Cassandra Nova invades the mansion, we learn about secondary mutations, and we meet old/new character Emma Frost. How did this comic influence Ben's own storytelling? What's his dream team of mutants? And is Xavier always walking around with a gun?

Hey, stickers, listeners with the podcast, Chad here. We have the fantastic Ben Joseph. He's a writer for TV and the internet. You might know from his work on college humor. He's done stuff for Dropout. And I'm always kind of like, I feel like I'm passively begging him. Like, please, Ben, I just want to play the game on dropout. Um, actually. That's my jam. I do that in real life. I'd correct people and try to gain points about nerd culture. So I think I'd be perfect for it. I guess at this point, Ben, if you're listening, I'm just asking you again, if I can on. I'm actually... Anyway, Ben's done more than that.

Really, really cool.

He's written for The Simpsons.

Ben's rat. And he came forward with a

choice of X-Men. He is for Extinction, which is now sort of a legendary run in nearly

2000s that really relaunched them. It brought Emma Frost out of obscurity and made her now

this main character that Marvel's obsessed with, and introduced

the new villain of Cassandra Nova, who attacks people with their mind. And speaking of minds

being under duress, I have a disclaimer for this episode. I recorded it with Ben, felt a little

weird, I knew it was a little sick. And it wasn't until we were immediately done recording that I realized I had a fever of 102.

1:32.2

So apologies to Ben for having to deal with that.

1:34.9

Apologies to both Ben's.

Guest Ben and editor Ben having to deal with that as well.

1:39.8

I hope it's not too much of a mess.

1:41.8

I got really excited to talk about X-Men.

I think everyone on this podcast seems excited to talk about X-Men.
