| 0:00.0 | So if you are a wrestling fan of a certain age, you will remember from 2004 the storyline between Kane, Matt Hardy and Lita. And if you are tuning into this to actually learn about it, I warn you, it is massively offensive and bottom of the barrel stuff. It's one of the reasons I always advocated for not taking the mask off Kane. You could understand why they did do it because you've been wearing that thing for a few years and it would always go into elongate his career but at the same time well it opened him up for stuff like this and when you're a deaf mute well you can't say anything now what's not at ressomania 20 because i think it does sum it up the original undertaker the OG had just come back to take down his brother Kane who had been being an asshole and this was absolutely brilliant like if you love biker Taker, seeing the zombie version of the phenom finally walked back down the aisle with the druids and the fire and the old school music, it just made you feel warm and fuzzling your tum-tum, which is why it's very questionable that Kane did lose here. And then he went into a pile of nonsense. Because as always in 2004, Vincent Mann was still desperately trying to get back to the success of the attitude era. |
| 0:56.7 | So he took an envelope and he did this. |
| 0:58.8 | He pushed it as much as possible. |
| 1:00.3 | So yes, one day on Monday Night Raw, came walk to the ring and he beat the absolute crap out of Matt Hardy. |
| 1:06.4 | And as we found out soon after, he did this not because he massively hated Matt Hardy, although I'm sure that did tie in, but because he was in love with his then current girlfriend, Lita. Now, right, where you should be saying, why would we take somebody spooky-wookie and put them in a love angle? Exactly. You can actually not watch the rest of the video, but please do I need it. Kane also kidnapped her, so for some reason the cops didn't care. |
| 2:01.3 | On the same evening, he won a battle royal to take on the World Heavyweight Champion, it'll become the number one contender. And what did WW do in this situation? Nothing. They said, even though you have stolen somebody, you can still have your world title match. The amount of crimes that were going on that were completely ignored is through the roof. This was going to be a bad blood and he was going to be taken on Chris Benoit who'd won that championship at WrestleMania. And of course, in true WW booking, we took Kane and we paired him with La Resistance so he could take on Benoit and Edge. This allowed Kane to pin Benoit in that match before the big show. And of course, at the show itself, Chris Benoit won, which I kind of guessed left Kane in a very precarious position. What does he do next? |
| 2:04.5 | Well, during this time, as he was focused on the gold, we learnt that Matt Hardy and Lee |
| 2:08.3 | were pregnant together, and instantly that raised a bunch of red flags. If you'd watch WWE throughout |
| 2:13.3 | all this time, you know they cannot handle it at it's back then, any sensitive topic with any |
| 2:18.3 | sense of nuance, which means eventually something terrible was going to happen, and it did because |
| 2:23.2 | Kane revealed himself that he was the father, and the term that he used was an involuntary pregnancy. |
| 2:29.7 | Now, you can realize what WW was hinting at here, and it also shows they also knew how terrible this was. They weren't going to come out and say that word, but they were going to take as many pathways around it as possible and still put this into the real world, where anybody, somebody could have turned around and said, you know what, we could do anything else, but they flabbing didn't. Now of course, once again, WW did not punish Kane for all of this. I think it's important we keep talking about it and instead said he could have a match against Matt Hardy. And before all this, Kane also went and beat up Shaw Michaels because he was super concerned about his legacy. You tell me. Even Raw general manager Eric Bischoff got in on this for some reason because he said to Kane, you know what, you can have whatever your heart does desire. So we did get a rematch against Chris Benoit, and we stacked the deck against Chris because he could only win by submission, but Kane, the wording is very important here, could do whatever he wanted. It's just like, oh my gosh, I'm going to turn off my TV. Now, of course, Kane still lost here thanks to interference from Lita, when somehow W.W made this even more abominable. Because Kane decided how dare you do that to me, I'm going to give you a choke slam, when he realized that Lita probably wanted this, because the impact from that blow, well, it may mean the baby went away, so he decided about not doing it. I'm trying to phrase this as conservatively as I can, but once again, it was really, really, excuse my language. Now all of this did lead to Ventions 2004 when we finally did Kane versus Matt Hardy in a no-DQ match, and yes, once again, Matt Hardy was able to win here after Leeter punched Kane of the balls and Matt Hardy used a chair, but if you think it was going to end here or get better afterwards, you were sorely mistaken. Now let's just jump to SummerSlam 2004, which is going to make you cry inside. But after Matt Hardy suffered an knee injury and was going to have to go away for a while, W.W.E decided to book a Till Death Do Us Part match, meaning the winner of this got to marry Lita. Now, once again, let's not forget how Lita and Kane had got together to begin with via kidnapping. Somebody in WW still decided to put on the line. Well, if the big Red Machine wins, sure, he can wed Lita and have a guess what happens, especially because once again, Matt Hiley did have to go away. That's right, Kane won, and we were going to do the wedding on Raw. Awful. |
| 4:33.9 | Now this happened on the 23rd of August Raw, so you can't go watch this right now, should you so wish. |
| 4:37.8 | And Matt Hardy was here again to try and save the day, like any good hero would. |
| 4:41.7 | But note the evil villain, chokesland him off the stage, and we basically sold this like, |
| 4:46.5 | oh well, Matt Hardy, you're dead. |
| 4:47.7 | It also just meant all the baby faces in this feud, not like mega geeks, but all of a sudden Eric Bishop was back on his wild madness, because he told Kane, I'd love to give you a wedding present, in the form of you getting to choose whatever match you want. There's the second time he had done this, and now Kane had decided he still hated Shaw Michaels, so we went into that match instead. |
| 5:05.6 | And this was another no disqualification match |
| 5:07.1 | because once again, WW. There's the second time he had done this, and now Kane had decided he still hated Shaw Michaels, |
| 8:07.8 | so we went into that match instead. Now, this was another no disqualification match, because once again, WW just thought this would bring more irons to the product. And yes, it was very similar to what had happened before. Lita got involved. She stopped Kane from using a chair when Shaw Michaels blasted that chair right into Kane's face, and he got the one, two, three. So once again, we all went, okay, we understand. Matt Hardy, very sadly, got injured, but we do need to finish this story. We'll do it with Shaw Michaels, given what had happened a few weeks ago, and now Lita can go on to do something else. Not at all. Just clear the powers that be, we're basically pulling at straws here and wanted this to continue. So on the 12th of September Raw, all of a sudden, Gene Snitsky debut. Now, this is no offence to Gene, but nobody really knew who he was before this, unless you were super into the indie scene. And he took on Kane, which ended after some communication, because Gene Snitsky hit Kane with a chair, and Kane fell on Tolita. And then, yes, eventually, and again, excuse my language, I don't know how else to say this, she suffered a miscarriage because of the actions of Gene Snitsky, but also basically because of everything Kane had done. Now, listen, you may disagree with me, that's totally fine. You can leave me a comment below, but I think these aspects of life should never be in wrestling because we all watch it to be distracted. So if you are suffering with that in your real life, you don't want it thrown back at you in your entertainment hours. What really did throw this out the window never to return though is because WW had lost Matt Hardy and felt like they needed more superstars on the baby face side, they used this to turn Kane into a good guy and I'm not even kidding. All of a sudden he came out all virtues like saying, how dare you do this to me, Gene Stitsky? You stole my child away. Even though before all of this, he had committed the worst of the crimes. You know what I'm talking about here. And it really, really was an insult to the WW universe. But none of the fans brought into this because we are massive nerd. We are massive geeks and we do remember. I think WW is hoping that we would just forget and see good guy being good guy, now with treatment as a good guy, but of course we didn't. All of this was just such an awful total mess. He was trying to get revenge though, which led to a match at Taboo Tuesday, which the audience did choose the stipulations for. So yes, the big red machine then beat Gene Snitsky in a chain match. Of course, in the build to all this two, Gene had gone on TV and over and over again said it wasn't his fault. And at one night, also kicked a fake baby into the crowd. I'm laughing because I don't know what else to do. There'll be an image on the screen right now. Just look at it, just accept it, and we can all say it together, WWE in 2004 is pretty damn bad. Now maybe luck stepped in after this because WW then decided after this they do need to take Kane off television because Glenn Jacobs had to go fill the movie, see no evil. And this actually felt like a stepping off point. Again, Kane had beaten Gene Snitsky. Even though he was never going to be accepted as the babyface, he still got somewhat a major win. Now for the love of everything, draw a line under and move on. For the second time, they didn't do that. He did return at New Year's Revolution 2005 to beat Gene Snitsky once again because of course he had taken him off the show. And at this time, Lita was also feuding with Tristras. So this is fine. Please can we keep them in their separate lanes? Nope. Because at backlash, Kane and Lita actually teamed up to take on Tristrattis, who for some reason had also hired Big Viss as her bodyguard. Kane and Lita won, which I suppose was the right thing to do in inverted commas. We still couldn't help ourselves. I'll give you five seconds to guess. |
| 8:09.8 | What do you think happened? |
| 8:10.8 | That's right. |
