It's 2013, and there's this artist, and he's an American. His name is Jaron Collins, and he's been designing jewelry.

And he's had some measure of success in his life, and right now he's in Hong Kong, and he's looking for new stones to set.

And he sees one in a little shop, a gem market,

that really catches his eye. It's bright blue, a truly striking Azure that almost doesn't

seem like it could have come from the ground. It's a little bit like Lapis Lazuli, but lighter

and more vibrant in color. And the stone is strangely lightweight as well,

not seeming to weigh much more than gypsum.

And the coloration is almost perfectly even,

except for a few veins of white running across the surface,

actually takes on the appearance of the sky on a cloudless day. And Colin, he asks the dealer,

his name is Arthur, and that's all we know about him, if he can buy it and Arthur won't sell.

It's literally the only thing in the shop, not for sale. That's how rare the stone is. Understandably,

Collins becomes obsessed. He must have some of these mysterious rocks.

And he eventually did get his hands on some. In fact, Jared Collins, like me, ends up falling down a rabbit hole,

trying to figure out what the skystones are. A rabbit hole involving a mysterious,

missing Italian geologist, a civil war, and even alien civilizations.
