Well, once again, we find ourselves half-talking about retirement synergies

and half-talking about amazing tennis.

It seems to have been the story of the week so far.

But I don't think I can ever remember Catherine Whitaker.

In fact, I certainly can't remember because it's never happened in the history of the WTA finals

that four players have either retired or withdrawn from the events before the final day.

I mean, and in fact, in the whole tournament, this time it was Bill and Da Benchich,

who started to feel an injury on the upper left part of her hamstring.

We weren't sure whether it was cram, or whether it was an injury,

but she withdrew at 4-1 down in the third set.

And what was a really fun first set ends up being a somber, deflated occasion,

and we all needed cheering up. How's your day, Ben?
