We're your weekly guide to the numbers in the news and in life and I'm Tim Halford.

In this programme we'll be looking at three of the numbers that have been making the news over the past year.

In March, Nigeria's president Goodluck Jonathan was unseated by former general Mahamadu Bihari in the general election.

Both the winner and the loser were praised for the peaceful passing of power.

But Peter Cunliff Jones from Africa Check has a number of the year for us.

It relates to an argument about the Nigerian economy.

Seven trillion.

And to watch the seven trillion refer.

Seven trillion is the number of Naira that the incoming government in Nigeria thought that it was going to be facing as a deficit at the end of the year.

Seven trillion Naira is roughly what in dollars or pounds?

It's around about 23 billion pounds, around about 40 billion dollars.

Do we believe the number?

We don't.

At the start of the year, what turned out to be the outgoing government had projected a deficit of just over one trillion Naira.

So just one seventh of what the incoming government alleges?

That's it.

And so there was a transition committee that was set up.
