Today we want to take you back.

To Glen Eagles, Scotland.

It was there 10 years ago this month that some of the world's richest nations, the G8, met,

and they agreed to wipe the debt of 40 of the poorest nations, to increase aid by $50 billion a year

and to support trade. The agreement was made against a backdrop of Bono, Bob Geldof and Live 8 concerts demanding that they make poverty history.

Here's how the stars reacted to the deal.

We have to give it up to the hundreds and thousands,

indeed the millions of people who got out on the streets because they do have a result. A mountain

has been historic or not. What is true is that

never before have so many people forced a change of policy onto the global agenda and

today that policy has been forcefully addressed.

It was proclaimed as a momentous achievement.

Max Lawson is head of global campaigns and policy at the charity Oxfam GB and he was there when the deal was signed.

It was very exciting. When you're a campaign, you spend a lot of time fighting for these things and there are moments when these deals are struck and you know they're going to make a big difference.
