The United States is going through politically interesting times

at the moment.

The new president, Donald Trump, is not afraid of saying

controversial things to put it mildly.

He has even raised doubts about the integrity of the election

that made him president saying there were three million

illegal votes for his opponent, who could

simply beat him in the popular vote by just under three million votes.

Now, lots of academics and election experts have rebutted this view

and suggested the idea of three million votes

from a mixture of immigrants, double voters,

and recently dead is baseless.

So American democracy is in the clear.

Well, not so fast.

North Carolina is no longer classified as a democracy.

That's a headline from a local newspaper based in North Carolina,

and it was quite a claim.

And unsurprisingly, got a lot of publicity.

People wanted to know what North was going on in a state just 200 miles south

of Washington, DC.
