that caught the eye of the independent fact-checking organization Africa Check.

First we turn to the topic of politicians pay and here to help us from Lagos

My name is David Ajicobe I am the Nigeria editor for Africa Check he decided to look

into this claim which has recently been circulating online.

The question is does the Nigerian lawmaker end more than US President Trump?

Specifically news websites were reporting that a Nigerian senator earns 1.7 million U.S. dollars a year,

far higher than the salary of the US President.

Just to put that into context, the leader of the world's biggest economy, President Trump,

gets up to around $450,000 a year with expenses. This claim was made by the head of an

advocacy group in Nigeria that's calling for a cut to the amount lawmakers earn.

The Nigeria National Assembly is made up of two

houses to vote on legislation, the Senate and the House of Representatives.
