Kent Heitholt was brutally murdered leaving work in 2001. After 2 years, no leads and little evidence the case was going cold. That is until police convince Charles ‘Charlie’ Erickson that he must have blacked out and killed this man. The story was muffled and the timeline didn’t make sense but at least someone could be blamed. After a coerced confession, arrests were made and 2 people went to prison. Charlie and his friend Ryan Ferguson who claimed his innocence the entire time.

That is until lady boss defense attorney Kathleen Zellner took the case and dug deep. Kathleen determined these two at the time teen boys had nothing to do with Kent’s murder and truth was about to prevail.

After more than 10 years she was able to get Ryan Ferguson freedom November 12, 2013.

Charlies Erickson continues to wait for parole in 2023 on his guilty plea.
