Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast. Today's tip is that when someone in your life does something you think is awesome, write a note to say so.

This doesn't take much time, but can make the other person feel good for quite a while.

I imagine most of us quite like it when someone notices our hard work and says something about it.

I will venture to guess that for most people, it feels even better when someone writes to

congratulate you or thank you. Instead of just hearing the good wishes, you get to savor them

and look at them over and over again.

Think an email from your boss after you ace an important presentation.

A text from another mom to say her family loved the fall festival you planned for your kids' school.

A note from your best friend thanking you for that thoughtful and funny toast you gave at her wedding reception.

Messages like these are both meaningful in the moment and in the future too.

Personally, I keep a file of notes of appreciation that I've received. When people say that something I have written or said has affected them positively, the note goes into the file.

I love to flip through these notes and be reminded that my work has impact.

It keeps me plugging along on other things.

Perhaps you similarly have some notes that you revisit.

If that is the case, then you can probably understand that

people aren't fundamentally different. The people in your life would love to get similar notes

of appreciation or congratulation from you. So whenever someone does something cool, make a point of capturing your admiration.

Put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and let them know you have seen what they have done.

You are celebrating with them.
