Now, if you've followed wrestling long enough, you've probably heard the name.

Maybe you know the basics.

New Jack, a teenager, a brutal blade job, lawsuits, national media coverage, and a scandal that nearly destroyed ECW

before the company even got off the ground nationally. But the full story is far more complicated

than the headlines made it seem. This wasn't just about a wrestling match gone wrong.

It became a debate about responsibility, locker room culture, wrestling safety, deception,

and just how far ECW was willing to go in the name of extreme entertainment.

So, today, we're breaking down the entire story. What happened? Why it

You first have to understand ECW back in 1996.

Extreme Championship Wrestling was unlike anything else in North America at the time.

While WWE and WCW were producing polished television wrestling.

ECW was violent, gritty, chaotic, and rebellious.

The promotion built its identity around hardcore matches, anti-establishment energy,

adult-oriented storytelling,

and wrestlers willing to put their bodies through punishment

to stand out. The company also had a cult following, but financially, it was still very fragile.
