That was it.

A short sermon, to the point, right to the heart.

That was what God gave Jonah to deliver to the people of Nineveh. Now, you would

think, you would think, honestly, that a people so vile, so wicked, so violent, so degraded and

debauched, would need much more than that. Oh, but my friend, the word of God is like a hammer that breaks the rock

in pieces. One word from the Lord can break a sinner. One word from God can humble the heart,

can turn the attention Godward, can awaken the conscience. And that is exactly what happened

when Jonah began to preach in Jonah chapter

number three, this simple message. Here it is again. Ready? The whole sermon, yet 40 days and

Nineveh shall be overthrown. Now, we know that it is a message of judgment, but did you notice

it is not only a message of judgment, it is a message of mercy. If it was only a message

of judgment, it would have simply said Nineveh shall be overthrown. But instead, it says yet,

aren't you glad for God's yet? That's a word of mercy. It's a time to repent. It's a space of grace.

It's a window, a small window, but it is a moment that God gives yet 40 days and

Nineveh shall be overthrown. In other words, judgment is coming, but mercy can come.
