Hello and welcome to the Americano podcast, a series of discussions about American politics

0:08.7

and the Trump presidency for the new Spectator USA website. I'm joined today by Jacob Harbrun,

0:16.8

the editor of the national interest, a Spectator USA columnist and one of our, in fact, I think the most frequent of our Americano guests.

0:27.5

Jacob, thank you for joining us.

0:29.6

Let's talk about Kavanaugh, because the Senate have just voted on Kleture, which means that it looks very much as though the nomination will happen.

0:38.6

In fact, it's pretty much guaranteed now.

0:41.0

1:29.8

1:37.2

upon Democratic opposition to Kavanaugh to try and motivate the Republican base. So I don't think that this issue is ending at all.

1:47.8

The only question is, as Lenin said, who, whom, which party will benefit if Kavanaugh is confirmed?

1:57.7

Well, my instinct, and I suspect you'll disagree with me, is that the Republicans

2:03.8

will benefit because I think that the Democrats were actually looking quite good before the

2:09.5

whole Kavanaugh. And actually, latest polls suggest that they're dipping a bit,

2:17.2

and it may well be because of this,

2:18.8

because I actually think a lot of people were quite disgusted by the Democrats.

2:25.0

They're appalled by it.
