Summary

Taylor, Ryan, Graham, and Joe gather around their respective microphones to answer your lovely listener questions! From fictional club vs. national team games to what referees are looking for when they check players’ cleats, there was plenty to chat about. You can find the full list of questions that we answered down below:

1) What countries have a club team in their domestic league that would beat their national team?

2) Do teams have a strategy behind their kickoffs?

3) If we there was a combined North and South American tournament, would people around the world care more than they do about the Gold Cup or the Copa America? And would that combined tournament help the USMNT?

4) When substitutes are checking in, why does the fourth official check the bottom of their cleats?

5) Watching the Euros, it seemed like Paul Pogba and Harry Maguire play better for France and England than they do for Manchester United. Why is that?

6) Why was Jaden Sancho included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2020?

Welcome to the Total Soccer Show and our latest listener questions episode.

0:26.4

My name is Ryan Bailey, and joining me today is a man whose answers to listener questions are much like his beard.

0:32.5

They're long, but they don't need trimming.

0:34.8

Taylor Rockwell.

0:36.2

That is correct. I appreciate that introduction.

0:38.4

I'll say my beard is also very curly, so much like my answers, it circles back in on itself.

0:42.7

I feel like that fits.

0:44.3

See, that was part of my original script, but I didn't want to be rude, Taylor.

0:48.8

They're long and meandering and sometimes get right back to where they were and sometimes end at a point.

0:53.3

How about that?

0:53.9

And sometimes you just be completely shave away disagree hard disagree for me too just kidding also here

1:02.9

you might have heard him giggling just there is a man who loves the olympics more than life itself is

1:06.8

graham roth than graham you adore the olympics in all forms right oh. I am an expert now in all things Olympics. The USA are apparently now bad at women's soccer and basketball. And the UK, Great Britain, are still really good at the dancing horses. Horse dancing is the greatest of all Olympic sports. We can agree on that, Graham. And one that I've really

1:27.7

got into this time around is the skateboarding. Watching here in England on the BBC commentary,

1:33.8

and you've got the commentators saying, oh, that Olly, he just flipped was so fresh. That backside

1:39.6

kickflip, fakey nose grind was on the nose, baby. And it it's just it's it's kind of strange for

1:45.4

Olympic commentary there's just some countries that don't go together with some sports I think

1:50.4

Britain and skateboarding goes as goes together as well as I think Italian rap um really so I mean

2:00.2

I won't dis the Italian rap till I've heard it, frankly. Well, you're going to hear it. I do sort of picture, like, the very stuffy, tuxedoed commentators trying to do skateboarding, and I'm sure they have people who do it appropriately and have some level of insight and aren't just horrified and Monocles falling out. But that is a more fun way to picture it being covered in England. But it was quite fun watching the skateboarding, but then the very posh commentator to say, oh, that was baller. And you're like, oh, no, you don't need to say that. Oh, boy. Oh, boy. Completely out line out, by the way, is a man who is unlike the USWNT because he doesn't need to fix a darn thing. Joe Lowry. Oh, Ryan. If only that were true, on a different note, I really, I missed you guys. This is fun. Even though I was just sitting in the background waiting for permission to speak in that banter bit, it's fun to listen, you know. Joe, I would like a five-word summary of either Olympic skateboarding or the USW&T at Olympics.

2:56.0

Oh, I've also watched some Olympic skateboarding, so I'll go that route because we talked

3:00.0

funny about the US Women's National Team.

3:02.3

It's not my favorite.
