Hi, everyone. Welcome to another installment and remap's new podcast series, Worth Reading. Years ago,

Worth Reading was a long-running feature of some of my previous homes, including Giant Palm and Kataku,

where I tried to highlight interesting writing, reporting, and criticism in the world of video games.

I've been looking for an excuse to bring Worth Reading back in a new format, and so I figured,

hey, why not do it as a podcast?

So, welcome back to Worth Reading, a short form podcast, at least by remap standards anyway.

We're remap chats with people who are doing interesting writing, reporting, and criticism in the world of video games.

I'm happier here, and I'm especially happy to welcome Jack Ryan, an investigative journalist with a specialization in, as he puts it on his website, climate change, biotech, health, video games, and human beings.

Jack was a science editor at CNET and a science and tech reporter for the Australian Broadcast Corporation.

And I'm chatting with Jack for the first time on this podcast because of well-researched, but deeply upsetting

aftermath story published over at Aftermath, the secretive company filling video game websites

with gambling in AI. Jack, I didn't want to know about this, but now I do, and I'm upset,

but welcome to Worth Reading.

And I wanted to keep this part on record.

I think it's important to get to your audience. I am very thankful that you brought back worth reading in some way.

I think that this is like Lord knows we need more of interrogation, I guess,

of the games journalism and games criticism sphere and letting people talk through their stories

I think also makes us a little bit like more real to people. People probably don't really

know Jack Ryan, except if they've read Tom Clancy novels, of course. I'm not the spy.
