I believe in heaven we are going to have the most razor, sharp, clear, rational, logical perceptions of truth,

and we are going to be the freest, most spontaneous, expressive, emotional, poetic, romantic, artsy people imaginable.

And there won't be anybody walking around saying, why do they do that?

Or why does he think like that? Or why can't he do this? Because everybody's going to be whole.

I think it's easy to assume that being logical and being emotional are sort of opposite ends

of the spectrum, like you have to choose one or the other.

But Piper doesn't buy that.

John Piper casts a vision of worship where reason and emotion don't compete. They harmonize.

The seminar was originally delivered on Wednesday evening, September 26th, 1990.

Now, I want to direct our attention tonight to two verses and then pray with you and move into our subject matter of the what of worship and then on to some of the how of worship.

And the two texts are first Romans 12 1 and 2 which many of you know by heart

and then a text that balances that Romans 12 1 and 2 i appeal to you brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, wholly acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that you may prove what is the will of God,

what is good and acceptable and perfect.

So there's a clarion call for nonconformity to the world.

All right.

Now, the balancing text comes from 1st Corinthians 9 19 which goes like this though I am free from all men

I have made myself a slave to all that I might win the more to the Jews I became as a Jew

in order that I might win Jews to those under the law I became as a Jew in order that I might win Jews.

To those under the law, I became as one under the law, though not being myself under the law,

that I might win those under the law.
