Fortunately, you know, we have a set of traditions. We have so far, thus far, we have succeeded in alcoholics, anonymous anonymous by staying true to our purpose.

And, you know, our society is based on the traditions that we're going to discuss just now.

And like true alcoholics, we didn't like them when they first came out.

I mean, if you read A.A. history, you know, the girl had a terrible time getting alcoholics

and drunk interested in adopting these traditions.

They didn't want to do it.

And, you know, the stories abound about Bill Wilson going out.

He was invited to speak only on the condition that he not

mention those damn traditions.

And nobody wanted to hear him.

They got tired of hearing about him.

He wrote a lot about him in the grapevine, but they just weren't well received at all.

And however now, you know, most of us understand that these traditions are what have allowed us to thrive.

And let me give you a little quick example.

We have a tradition that says the only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking.

When AA was about 10 years old, back around 1945, the members of the people in New York sent

out a questionnaire to all the groups that they know of.

And they said, please tell us, what are the requirements for membership in your group?
