Church of Kiazza Nova in the city of Rome this is a church where St Philip Nere is buried and I want to tell

you all a great story about St.

Philip Nary that reminds us of the importance of how we use our words.

Do we use our speech, our conversation with others? Do we use our words to build up or to tear down?

Do we use it to honor to praise and thank others, to build up other people, to build up the community,

to build up our family life, or do we use our words to complain, to grumble, to criticize, to express express anger to tear down and that divides our

communities whether it's in our parishes our workplaces or our family lives

St Philip Nere is a great saint that reminds us of how careful we have to be in our choice of words.

You know, it reminds me of something St. James says in his New Testament letter James talks about how the tongue is a fire.

The tongue is a fire and when we start falling into one great sin with our speech, the

sin of gossip,

where we start telling other people,

oh, did you hear what this person did?

Oh, did you hear with this person

the parish is planning on doing?

Did you hear about what our brother said or our cousin said when we start getting into gossip

we start tearing other people down it becomes like a wildfire because it goes

from one person to the next to the next and it divides and this is what the

devil uses to break up marriages to destroy family life to tear up Christian communities

in a parish to cause a whole bunch of havoc in workplace environments.
