But we kick things off with a women's world cup, which of course started yesterday and started brilliantly for the host.

As they beat Norway by one goal to nail for more on this, let's head to New Zealand.

Alexis Nunez is there. Alexis, how's this a result being received?

Yes, and honestly, no disrespect to Norway, but I think it was the perfect way to start the World Cup.

At least here in New Zealand, because it's no secret that New Zealand or the ferns are probably the more overlooked of the host given Australia's pedigree in the world of football.

And it's no surprise because the ferns will actually New Zealand have never won a World Cup match, men or women's team.

And yesterday, the women managed to do it and they did it in style, beating Adam Heggerberg and Norway who are former champions.

The result that not many people ever saw coming in front of a record crowd at home as well.

I was watching a local broadcast and there were many tears from a lot of the former ferns players as well who said that they actually never dreamed that this would happen.

This is such a massive moment for the country.

It was the perfect way I would say to start the tournament and to finish the day which actually started in tragedy.

Yeah, let's talk about that, Alex. This is quite something, of course, three died in that shooting.

Was there ever any talk of the game not going ahead and what were the circumstances that led up to this?

Yeah, Dan, it was a very surreal moment. It was just after 7 a.m. when we were actually outside filming, getting ready to do our FC Women's World Cup special when our security team notified us that there was an active shooter situation, something that is quite rare in New Zealand.

We heard that there were three fatalities, a shooter being one of them with still multiple other people injured.

What was even scarier was the fact that this was happening in the area of the U.S. Women's national team hotel.

It was just a few blocks away. We got to speak to some of the players afterwards and they said that they were just getting up and getting ready for breakfast when they heard of that as well.

They had to be locked into the hotel. It delayed the time that they were leaving to go for training, but they really felt for the people of New Zealand.

Unfortunately, they are used to seeing headlines like that stateside, but in New Zealand, like I said, it is a rare occasion for it to happen.
