Hi, we're here from curiosity.com to help you get smarter in just a few minutes.

0:05.2

I'm Cody Gough. And I'm Ashley Hamer. Today you'll learn about why the women's

0:08.9

restroom line is always longer, an incredibly rare condition of having superhuman memory, and how bamboo products

0:16.1

impact the environment.

0:17.1

Let's satisfy some curiosity.

0:19.4

We all know that the line to get into the women's restroom is pretty much always longer than the

0:24.0

line to get into the men's restroom. In fact, on average, women have to wait about

0:28.2

34 times as long as men to use the bathroom. Well today you're going to learn the surprising

0:34.3

it obvious the reasons why and it turns out Ashley is actually a really good managing editor who runs

articles about things that people don't all already know. So if you're

0:50.4

listening and you're a guy like me and you're like, well, I know, then stay tuned because you may not.

0:56.2

I mean, I didn't either, honestly.

0:58.7

So there you go. If you're listening and you're a human, right?

1:01.6

Or, cyborg. We don't discriminate. Absolutely. I'm technically a

1:05.4

cyborg. All right, so researchers studied restroom lines and a team at Ghent

1:10.4

University came up with three main reasons for the difference in waiting time between men and women.

1:15.5

The first reason is just the net number of toilets.

1:19.0

Usually restrooms are the same size in terms of space, but urinals take up less room than full

1:24.8

bathroom stalls. The same size restroom that fits 10 stalls in the women's room

1:29.2

could fit 10 urinals plus two stalls in the men's room.

1:32.8

On average you can fit 20 to 30 percent more toilets in a men's room.
