Hello and welcome to the evolution of horror. My name is Mike Munser. As ever, I am your host. We're bringing

0:23.6

you a little bonus episode today because this weekend sees the release of the new Lee Wannell horror

0:30.3

film Wolfman. Obviously, Lee Wannell directed a brilliant modernisation of the Invisible Man back in 2019. This is his follow-up,

0:39.5

and he's given a similar treatment to the classic werewolf movie from the 1940s. He's

0:45.2

given it a fun, fresh, modern twist, and he's done something really interesting with it.

0:50.7

So, later on in the episode, I'll be joined by Chris Hewitt, and we'll be discussing the

0:55.3

movie in spoilerific detail. But first of all, here is my interview with Lee Wunel. This

1:01.5

interview is completely spoiler-free. I got to chat to him for about 20 minutes. Now, it was a bit

1:06.9

of a chaotic day. This was the day that the fires broke out in L.A. Li Wunel lives in

1:13.6

L.A. So he was talking to me remotely from his house and bless him, there was a lot going on. Basically, there were fires all over L.A. around his house. So he wasn't quite sure what was going to happen that day, whether he was going to be evacuated.

1:33.3

It was really kind of him to still agree to do the interview anyway, but he was a little bit distracted.

1:40.5

He also had no power in his house. He had no Wi-Fi. So he was talking to me via his phone using his 5G.

1:46.6

So apologies if the signal comes and goes a little bit. There was a lot going on for poor Lee Wannell. But we still had a really lovely conversation. Lee Wannell is such a lovely guy.

1:51.7

I sat and chatted to him about making the movie, about the history of werewolf films in general

1:57.5

and about his inspirations behind this particular version of The Wolfman. So please

2:03.0

enjoy my conversation with the brilliant Lee Wunel. Lee Wunel, hello, how are you doing?

2:10.5

Oh, thanks for having me. It's surreal. Yeah, it's a bit of a surreal day. I really appreciate

2:15.9

you taking the time to be here to chat to me today.

2:18.3

I'm a big fan of Wolfman.

2:20.1

Tell us a little bit about how this project came to be.

2:23.1

You know, it's been five years since your last film, Invisible Man,

2:26.1

which for so many of us was basically the last film we saw on the big screen pre-COVID, right?
