Welcome back to the Word on Fire show. I'm Brandon Vot, the host and the content director

0:08.8

here at Word on Fire. And joining us from California is Bishop Robert Barron. Bishop

0:14.1

Barron, great to be talking with you. Hey, Brandon, good morning. Always great to be with

0:17.8

you. Well, I want to update everyone on a couple things here. One on a somewhat lighter

0:23.2

note, you just returned from the big focus conference. Give us a little recap of that.

0:28.8

Well, it was splendid. It was in Chicago. And of course, Chicago was awful. It's what I grew

0:34.4

up with, you know, five degrees above zero, freezing cold. So it's a little bit depressing, but

0:41.9

we were certainly warned by the presence of about 8,000 college aged kids at the McCormy

0:47.2

Place, which is the biggest convention center in Chicago. And I had the privilege of addressing

0:52.0

1:11.0

1:15.3

some bands there and the kids were really into it. And to me, that's the best combination. You

1:20.6

know, they're able to enter the mass and the great reverent spirit. And there's still young kids

1:26.3

having fun, you know, and anyway, it was very uplifting for me to just to be with those great people.

1:33.8

And you said at the end of your talk, you've said this many times in the past that you think

1:37.6

focus is one of the radiant lights of the new evangelization. I do. What I said to them was,

1:42.7

I don't know any group or movement in the church right now that is true or to its carism,

1:48.6

than focus. That focus had a very clear identity and mission and they lived up to it and they

1:55.8

embodied it. So I deeply admire that. And I had a great breakfast with Curtis Martin, the founder

2:01.0

and his wife. And we had a wonderful, you know, kind of conversation in the in the spirit about
