Over the past few months, there's been growing speculation about the future of Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers, the man often called the architect of the Warriors Dynasty.

During Myers time, the Warriors have made six NBA Finals and won four championships. But the team is now staring at a very uncertain future with some key player contracts about to expire and with Steph Curry, Clay Thompson and Dremont Green all getting up there in years.

Well, earlier this week, Bob Myers spoke to the press and announced that he was, in fact, stepping down.

I've only known how to do things one way. My whole life is kind of all the way and doesn't feel right to do something when I can't give it everything.

And that's what it takes to do what we've done over the last for me 12 years.

So today, we're replaying an episode that first aired back in early February. I spoke with the athletic Sam Amick, one of the reporters who first broke the news about Bob Myers' potential departure.

We talked about Myers' apparently magical touch as a GM. Why he has meant so much to the Warriors organization and why his departure would mean the end of an era. From Wondery, I'm Anders Kulto. It's Friday, June 2nd, and this is The Lead.

So Sam, we're here today to talk about Warriors GM Bob Myers and what lies in his future.

But I was actually hoping we could start with the past to explain where Bob Myers has come from and what exactly he's accomplished with the Warriors.

So first, can you give us the origin story of Bob Myers, the basketball player?

Yeah, for sure. It's funny. Bob and I grew up in the same neck of the woods. He grew up in Danville, California. I grew up in Pleasanton, California in the San Francisco Bay Area.

So it's the East Bay. He plays at Monivist to high school.

He ends up going to UCLA and you're talking essentially walk on material in the beginning and finds his way into a scholarship.
