Jesus then went on to moments of fervent prayer in the garden. Unfortunately, those disciples failed

in their assignment, and Jesus found them sleeping instead of praying. In this study,

He never asked us to do what he is not willing to do, what he is not already done.

The Bible says that we love him because he first loved us.

The old Puritans used to say God is always previous.

He's the divine initiator, and that's exactly right.

So he invites us to himself.

He invites us to join him in his work in this world.

This is one of the great truths, spiritual nuggets,

if I may, in Matthew 26 that I had missed for so long. We're looking at this passage,

this initial passage in Matthew on watching and praying. And we learned what we watch for.

We watch for the enemy and why we watch.

We watch so we can pray.

These two things are inseparably linked in scripture.

So we watch and pray.
