Description:
In the UK, we need to install 8 million heat pumps over the next decade and will need some 27,000 additional technicians in order to do so to reach net zero. Given the volume of work left to do, we're asking why is it that only 3% of those working in the trades, such as plumbers and electricians, are women? We spoke with Leah Robson from Your Energy Your Way who is ensuring renewable energy training schemes are not only fit for purpose, but infinitely more inclusive. Today her workforce sits at 50:50 men and women and in this podcast we discuss the challenges and opportunities created by striving for equal opportunity and attracting the tremendous volumes of people needed to power the clean energy transition. Enjoy!

0:08.0 | Right, okay. Is that why they do that? And so, Hello and welcome to another episode of the Fully Child Show podcast. Today I am joined by some real |

0:44.8 | And the reason that we're having this discussion today is because you're in your way |
0:48.1 | have a 50-50 workforce, 50% men, 50% women. |
0:51.8 | Now to put that into perspective, in the renewable energy industry |
0:55.8 | more broadly, it's around 80% men to 20% women. |
0:58.8 | Automative industry is pretty similar. |
1:01.2 | But when it comes to trades trades it's more like 97% men and 3% women. |
1:06.7 | And today we're asking why is that? Especially given the astronomical volume of work that needs to be done in order to reach net zero targets. |
1:16.0 | In fact, we have to stall 8 million heat pumps over the next decade requiring an additional 27,000 technicians. |
1:24.0 | And so not including women in this workforce seems kind of nonsensical. |
1:28.0 | But before we get into it, I have three very quick things to tell you. |
1:33.0 | First of all, my name is Imogen Bogle. |
1:35.0 | I spend most of my time on the Fully Charged show and the Everything Electric show. |
1:38.7 | And whilst I am obviously extremely biased, I do highly recommend you going to check out those once you've had a bit of an |
