| 0:42.3 | of a manuscript that we call named for him the Muratorian fragment. |
| 0:48.5 | The Muratorian fragment represents the thinking of a group of Christians from around 170 |
| 0:54.0 | AD and specifically their thinking on the issue of the canon. |
| 0:58.0 | It is in fact a canon list. |
| 1:00.0 | Now it's not the earliest canon list. We have some other canon lists in the |
| 1:05.0 | writings of the Church Fathers as they would write epistles. They would mention |
| 1:09.0 | different books and they would list different books. They would refer to the |
| 1:12.2 | four Gospels or they would |
| 1:13.6 | refer to Paul's epistles and they would identify specific books and so we can |
| 1:18.6 | read through their epistles and construct these canon lists in the early church. |

| 1:27.0 | It gives a significant insight not only to the list itself, |
| 1:31.0 | but it also gives us insight into some of the reasoning that went |
