Today I'm fortunate enough to have, I will honestly say he's my second favorite member of the cabinet only behind the vice president of the United States but somebody who has been doing Yomans work in the Department of Labor none other than former mayor of the great city of Boston,

but Secretary Walsh, how are you doing today?

I'm doing good, you know, I'm glad to fall in that.

That's a good lineage to fall under.

I love the VP too, so that's a good place to be. I will tell you

that Mayor Pete's gonna get mad at me but he knows that he is a strong third.

It's okay at least he's in contention he's in third place you know he's he's in the metal round so he's in contention. He's in third place. You know, it's he's in the metal round so he's all right.

He's all right. That's right. You know, we start each one of our episodes the same way and I want to do that with you by having our guest walk us through the arc of their career. So talk to us about your journey in public life. And even more important, I had an opportunity to be in the Obama administration over an ag. Of course, not a secretary, but I said no to it,

but why did you say yes to being labor secretary

when President Biden asked you to serve?

Well, you know, my whole career, let me just quickly. I started as a construction worker in Boston. I have a whole bunch of things before that. I ran for office in 1997. I ran for the legislature in Massachusetts.

I was fortunate to get elected.

I represent, it's called Dorchester, part of Boston.

I served in the legislature for 16 years.

A couple of years in there, I ran the bill who trades in Boston, so I had a chance to kind of see how the construction industry works on the developer side and the worker side.

2013, I had a chance to run for Mayor Boston and I did and I was fortunate enough to win and I served seven years as mayor.

And then, you know, in my time as mayor, you know, I had a chance, the first part of my tenure I had a chance to serve as mayor under the Obama administration

and the Obama-Bide administration

and actually get a chance to meet the Vice President
