He's the co-author with Donald F. Kettle of the new book, Bridge Builders,

How Government Can Transcend Boundaries to Solve Big Problems. He's now executive director of Delors. bridge builders, how government can transcend boundaries to solve big problems.

He's now executive director of Deloitte's Center for Government Insights, but 30 years ago,

he ran the Privatization Center for Reason Foundation, the nonprofit that publishes Reason

magazine. In fact, when I interviewed for my job at Reason, which started over 30 years ago,

I interviewed with Will. He's worked with dozens of governments at all levels over the years,

both in the United States and internationally. And he's written a shelf's worth of books

on the proper scope and functioning of government.

This guy knows everything there is to know about implementing good and

implementing terrible policy, really.

I talked with him about bridge builders and what he's learned over the past three decades

plus about making government more effective and less

intrusive when confronting major challenges such as the COVID pandemic.

And we also talked about why he thinks it's well past time to move beyond what he and his

co-author called the vending machine model of government,
