Former Sergeant Bill Lightfoot served with the Richmond Police Department for thirty-six years. He has served as an investigator with the Property Crimes Unit, the Robbery & Homicide Division, The Narcotics Division, the Criminal Intelligence Unit and the Domestic Violence Unit. He is a graduate of the Virginia Criminal Justice Instructors School and the National Intelligence Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.. He holds a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice.

Experience in the investigation of violent crimes, case preparation and evidence collection. Experienced in the design, development and management of training programs for law enforcement personnel, medical professionals, prosecutors, social services and other disciplines.

Has developed and delivered training in Domestic Violence in the workplace, Stalking Investigations, Stalking and the Elderly, Elder Abuse Investigations, Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, and Domestic Violence in Later Life, Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence in the Workplace. He has also assisted other agencies, both government and private, in the development of Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse protocols and policies, develops and delivers training to management and staff personnel.

1:00.3	the time to be with us today. We're going to be talking about something that's very near and dear to
1:04.8	all of our hearts, and that is elder abuse. Let's start off, Bill, with describing, how would you describe or define elder abuse?
1:15.1	Elder abuse is the mistreatment or of anyone over the age of 60. And it's a, to be honest,
1:27.3	it's a very huge topic. It has a lot of parts and pieces that they can go on and on and on. But it is mainly, in states, it is the abuse or the mistreatment of a person 60 and
1:52.8	older. 60 and older, okay. What, you know, with your, you know, very long, esteemed career
2:00.6	with the police department as an investigator, with your, you know, very long, esteemed career with the police department as an investigator,
2:03.6	did you see a disproportionate number of cases of elder abuse?
2:09.6	Because it's, I feel like elder abuse is something we hear about child abuse.
2:12.6	We hear about, you know, spousal abuse and, you know, domestic violence, but it doesn't seem like elder
2:20.6	abuse really gets as much attention as these other forms of abuse. Is that a fair statement or is that
2:26.1	too generalized? It's very fair. It's, for those people who deal with elder abuse on a daily basis,
2:36.5	what we think we're seeing is maybe one every 10 cases.
