One of the most iconic incidents in the history of the Sahaba

is when the cousin of the prophet,

Sallu al-a'u'a'u'a'u'a'u'a'a'u'a'a'a'u'a'a'a'a'i'a'an'an'an'an'an'an'an'an'an'an'an the king of Abyssinia, an iconic moment in our early episodes of the Sira.

And the king asked him, what is your message?

What is your deen? What is your religion?

And so he replied in that beautiful, poignant, eloquent paragraph,

O honorable king,

we were in a state of jahiliya.

We were in a state of jahiliya and of immorality.

We would worship the idols and eat dead meat lying on the ground.

We committed all sorts of fawahish, all sorts of shameful deeds.

We would break the ties of kinship.

We didn't know honor.

We didn't know generosity.

The strong amongst us took advantage of the weak.

And we remained in this jahiliya until Allah sent us a prophet and the incident goes on notice how he began we were in a state of Jahiliya and then Allah sent us a prophet

to eliminate that Jahiliah.

This concept of Islam coming to eliminate jahiliya is a constant motif of the Quran and

of the sunnah and of the seer of the prophet, sallah a laa'u al-a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'an.
