Summary

The exploding popularity of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy has raised awareness and demand for these “medical miracles” among the severely overweight…and the not-so-severely overweight.

Some questions have arisen about side effects – some merely annoying and some potentially dangerous. One complaint is the loss of lean muscle mass. While this is obviously not ideal, is there something specific about these drugs that contributes to muscle loss, or is it nothing more than a normal effect of weight loss by any method? How can it be prevented?

Listener resources: Survey of studies on weight loss and muscle loss vs fat loss.
