I'm joined by Patrick Wintel, the Guardian's diplomatic editor.

It has been a horrifying weekend in Iran.

The death toll now in excess of 500 and it's thought that over 10,000 people have been arrested

according to human rights organisations. The regime is now saying that the protests are largely

brought under control and certainly we know that over the

weekend the numbers of people turning out have diminished, right? What are you hearing? Well, I think

the sheer scale violence on Saturday and Sunday was such that I don't think it's likely that

the protests will continue the kind of intensity that they were before.

And one of the problems has been the counter-revolution, which is going on today,

has been televised by Iran, but the revolution itself was never televised

because they wanted to suppress everything as much as possible.
