Summary

The National Grid has warned that British households could face power blackouts this winter, if the energy crisis exacerbates. But Liz Truss' government has ruled out any energy conservation campaign. Why? And it's been a hectic few weeks at the major party conferences, but what do the voters really think of the state of politics? Lewis went to a focus group in Swindon to ask what they make of Liz Truss and her opposite number Keir Starmer. Polly Billington, former Special Advisor to Ed Miliband, and Luke Tryl, former special advisor to ex-Conservative minister Nicky Morgan, and current director of public opinion research agency More in Common are with him to dissect the results. we've lived it. We've breathed it every day at the party conferences first in Liverpool,

But we've been with the politicians and with other political journalists,

and we wanted to just get an insight into how all of this tumult has fed through in terms of who really matter, the voters.

1:07.3

And don't worry, this isn't going to be a series of voxpops outside of a dusty train station,

1:12.4

but instead we've just come out, emerged from a focus group, a representative focus group of the voters

of Swindon, South. Very marginal constituency historically. Sort of place where the next general election

is going to be four and won and lost. And the results were completely fascinating,

both for Liz Truss, for Kirstama, for the Conservatives and for Labour, but also perhaps

most worryingly of all, in terms of the health of our democracy. It's Lewis here. This is
