We do family movie nights at my house pretty frequently. There's nothing like homemade popcorn

with lots of salt and butter and hanging with the kids. My kids range from eight months to 13 years old.

So sometimes it can be hard for us to find a movie that everyone agrees on. But another challenge

0:15.0

for us is finding media that isn't trying to push some kind of hidden agenda. Just in the last

few years, Disney has released several

films with LGBT characters like Strange World or Light Year, both in the year 2022. And as a father,

1:22.8

significant pushback against the retelling of Bible stories in a way that is Christless and moralistic.

1:29.2

I think that's really good. Moralism, just pure moralism in the Bible, is bad.

1:34.8

Sermons or media that depict Bible characters like David and Daniel as heroes to emulate

1:39.9

without situating them in the broader story of the Bible as forerunners to Jesus, who point to him in various ways, miss a key component of the story.

1:49.4

Now, I don't know if this new David movie falls into that trap. I'm excited to watch it to find out.

1:54.3

But for our part as parents, we want to make sure we're helping our children understand the redemptive historical flow of scripture.

These stories aren't just moral lessons for us to emulate, but they're a part of how God was bringing his Messiah into the world,
