Last week for the Wizards, it was active. It included a big surprise, a trade for Anthony Davis,

that really surprised everybody. And now, all of the sudden, the team has added two all-stars

in Davis and Trey Young. And next year's outlook is different. Joining me right now right now is Wizards general manager Will Dawkins.

Will, first of all, thanks for making time for me. Much appreciated. Sometimes big trades are in

the works for a while and sometimes they come out of nowhere. Describe the Anthony Davis trade.

Hey, good afternoon. Keb, thank you for having me. Um, yeah, like you said, each trade deadline is trade. Hey, good afternoon, Kevin. Thank you for having me.

Yeah, like you said, each trade deadline is different.

This one, we got active early with the Tray Young Trade and had to kind of reassess

where we were at, look at our finances for the offseason and what we can do in the trade

deadline.

And we got together with our strategy group and basically were like these are the tools we want to use to improve

the team this is kind of the wish list and we don't want to go above our price let's go

around the league and just canvass the league and see what we can get and towards that last

week it got a little bit more competitive, I guess, for prices

and markets. And at the end of the day, it sped up pretty quickly towards the end. And we were

very happy to go shopping and come away with a guy like Anthony Davis. But did it speed up

specifically with Anthony Davis? Was that an 11th hour kind of add to the strategy that you had decided on?

Or was that in the works for a week or two?

Yeah, I think it got more real within like a 48-hour type thing.

It became more of a pie-in-the-sky idea to actually having conversations with the team.

But again, each thing goes quickly and differently,

and this one kind of came together sooner than most.
