Hello listeners it is Thursday October 5th 2017 I'm Scott Bland your host and you are

listening to Politico's nerd cast We're going to jump in this week talking about the shooting in Las Vegas and what Congress is and is not doing in response to it.

It's been a decade since Congress passed a new gun control measure.

There is some talk of another one being passed in response to the tragedy in Nevada

but it is not as big a step as a lot of Democrats are calling for

and have been calling for after

each one of these major mass shootings that's taken place

in the United States over the past few years.

We're also going to talk about tax reform.

That's the other big issue percolating in Congress right now.

Nancy Cook has the inside scoop on what is going on in those talks and

we're going to talk about just why this issue is so difficult even as Republicans

put another difficult issue in health care in the rearview mirror.

And for our third segment, we are going to talk a little bit about Secretary of State Rex

Tillerson.

He's in the news this week over comments he reportedly made about Donald Trump, but also he's just been having a little bit of a tough time

in his relationships with the White House in general,

one of several cabinet secretaries having a little bit

of a tough time this summer.

And so we're going to talk a little bit about what's going on with him and what is percolating on the foreign policy front over the next few weeks as well.
